Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

No. Own Your Path is exclusively private pay. This keeps sessions focused on your goals rather than diagnostic codes or prior authorization, and it protects the confidentiality of the coaching relationship. A sliding-scale tier is available for qualifying families.

Does my child need a formal diagnosis to start?

No. Our specialization is autism, and the same structured model extends to the broader neurodivergent community — including ADHD and learning differences — as well as neurotypical clients who benefit from the same transition support. Self-identified clients are welcome.

What happens during the free consultation?

A roughly 20-minute call to talk through your needs and goals and confirm fit. Also includes a walkthrough of our program and services. If it's a good match, we send the full intake and social-history forms, then schedule the coaching-plan-development session where your first one or two goals are set.

Does it matter where I’m located?

No — Own Your Path is a fully virtual, national practice. Coaching is available to clients in all 50 states; if you can do a video call, we can work together, regardless of where you live.

‍ ‍Will we work with the same coach every time?

Yes — this is the practice's central principle. Each client is matched to one coach and meets at the same recurring day and time for the duration of the engagement. It's a relationship, not a rotating coverage slot.

What is “The OYP Coaching Model”?

It's our single, named method — every coach is certified in it before taking a client, so you get the same rigorous, individualized approach whoever you're matched with. It's grounded in transition research, self-determination (the client authors the plan), and a neurodiversity-affirming stance, and works one or two goals at a time toward a clear, agreed definition of success that's re-scored every 90 days.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes. A private, sliding-scale qualification step is available during intake for families who need it — ask your coach or reach out before booking.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

No. Coaching is forward-looking and goal-directed — it does not diagnose or treat a mental-health or medical condition, and it isn't crisis or emergency care. If a client needs diagnosis or clinical treatment, we make a warm referral to appropriate licensed care.

How long does coaching typically last?

Most engagements run 6–12 months, but length is individualized and follows your goals rather than a fixed curriculum. Progress is reviewed formally every 90 days, and goals are retired, revised, or replaced as you go.

How does “Guided Path Parent Coaching” work?

Guided Path is our dedicated parent-coaching track. It supports your own shift from manager to coach through a flexible twelve-module journey that folds into your family's plan — so your support stays aligned with your young adult's goals rather than unintentionally overriding them. Its core principle is allowing room to struggle safely, with a firm safety boundary where real harm is possible.
